Vox Iuventutis is a group of children/youth; devoted to singing sacred music of the Roman Catholic Church. Vox Iuventutis - (voice of youth) will hold regular Weekly rehearsals at (Choir 1) St James Parish, Abbotsford on Tuesdays at 5 PM, Saturday afternoons at (Choir 2) Holy Rosary Cathedral and (Choir 3) Chilliwack Cultural Centre at 5:30-6:15 on Monday.
The young singers will study and sing music of our Roman Catholic Church, singing timeless Gregorian chant along with beautiful sacred, polyphonic music. They will be exposed to and take part in the vastness of sacred music which was born from the Liturgy of the church. A repertoire that includes chant dating from the earliest days of the church, to music composed by sacred-music composers.
As part of their rehearsals, we will give brief catechism lessons from time to time to further deepen the children's understanding and connection of chant and liturgy. These children will inherit the traditions of our Church, providing every church of our archdiocese with beautiful music that will enrich the mass and our spiritual lives as Catholics. Family rates!
Our young singers will sing music composed by Renaissance masters such as Palestrina, Lassus, and Byrd; compositions by composers of the Baroque and Classical eras, including Bach, Handel and Mozart.
The singers will be expected to sing at Mass on occasion.
From time to time the singers may also sing along side renown group, Belle Voci and with the Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra.
Alongside this repertoire, the children will develop sight-singing skills, how to read chant, and modern notation.
The young children will be taught the basics of the Ward Method as well as note reading and solfege.
Such training shall develop individual skills in the areas of listening, musical expression, intonation and balance through their ensemble singing.
